Trip to Ma-Atamoulana: An Unforgettable Reunion

As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

After so many years, Alhamdulillah, we were finally able to relive the unique experience of visiting Ma-Atamoulana. It was a journey filled with memories, emotions, and gratitude, where every moment became a blessing.

It all began thanks to the affection and encouragement of a very dear brother. With his words of love and enthusiasm, he inspired us to come together and embark on this journey. Without his initiative, perhaps many of us would not have decided to return. May Allah reward him abundantly for this beautiful gesture, for at every step we felt the baraka of having responded to that call.

We were a diverse group: some had not returned for 15 years, others for 10, some for 4, and a few, like myself, only 3 years. Yet we all shared the same excitement: to set foot once again in Ma-Atamoulana.

Arrival in Nouakchott

We landed at Nouakchott Airport, and after the fatigue of the journey, we took a taxi straight to an apartment where we rested the first night. The next day, our dear brother and friend welcomed us with his characteristic hospitality: we spent the day at his home, shared abundant meals and heartfelt moments, and witnessed his sincere generosity.

On another day, he invited us again, prepared a special meal for us at his house, and later took us to a Yemeni restaurant in Nouakchott. There, we discovered new flavors and enjoyed each other’s company. Afterwards, he brought us to the beach, where we walked, talked, and felt the Atlantic breeze. We stayed there for almost an hour, in an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood.

Journey to Ma-Atamoulana

The following day, a taxi picked us up in the capital, in Tabragh Zeina, and drove us towards Ma-Atamoulana. The trip was surprisingly easy and quick. Those who had traveled more than a decade ago remembered how difficult it used to be: the road stretched for 50 or 55 kilometers in poor condition, making the journey long and exhausting. Today, thanks to the new highway, it takes only 80 to 90 minutes to reach Ma-Atamoulana. For those who knew the hardships of the past, this was a relief and a source of joy.

Stay in Ma-Atamoulana

Arriving in Ma-Atamoulana was emotional. As always, the hospitality was overwhelming: people welcomed us with open arms, offering an abundance of delicious and varied food. Nothing was missing — traditional dishes, sweets, tea — all served with love and generosity. We spent three to four days full of fellowship, recalling old stories, sharing new experiences, and feeling the spirituality of the land.

Return to Nouakchott

On the day of our return, we hired a taxi with a brother named Uld Bah, who drove us back with kindness and care. The journey back was once again simple and quick.

Upon arrival in Nouakchott, we decided to change our accommodation. At first, we thought we needed a better apartment, but eventually we settled in a hotel that turned out to be much better than expected: comfortable rooms, good location, and an excellent welcome. We spent two days there, enjoying good food, nearby cafés, and restful moments that completed the experience.

Reflections

This trip to Ma-Atamoulana was, without doubt, spectacular. An opportunity to learn, share, recharge our energy, and strengthen bonds among all of us in the group. Every traveler returned happy and grateful, and whenever we meet again, we lovingly recall the hospitality, the gastronomy, and the warmth with which we were received.

Alhamdulillah, it was a perfect journey, filled with memories we will always carry in our hearts.
